Thai Chi is one of Kenya's top-rated restaurants; it opened in 2007, well recognized for its authentic thirteenth-century Thai food. The restaurant sits inside Nairobi's central business district in the famous Stanley Hotel building.
The Stanley hotel building is the oldest hotel in Nairobi. It was established in 1902 and rebuilt in the 1950s to its present look. From the window of Thai chi restaurant, you can see the acacia tree in Thorn Tree restaurant, another popular restaurant inside Sarova Stanley. The restaurant used to be a famous meeting point in the late 70s and 80s for people going for safaris using a message board on the tree long before directories and the internet became popular.
Thai Chi restaurant's interior decorations are composed of Buddhist art with different sculptures and depictions of Buddha. The lighting sets the mood for a romantic lunchtime meal or dinner. The background music playing is calming and not loud to the point that conversations are drawn away. It sets the ambience for dates and formal work business meetings, providing a quiet space not common in the main Nairobi central business district. The service in the restaurant is quick, courteous and professional.
Thai food delicately brings together various tastes with a spicy touch. Thai Chi restaurant has two meal times, from 12 noon to 3 pm and serves dinner from 7 pm to 10 pm daily. There is a set menu with three different options to choose from. The menu has vegan-friendly options, as is familiar with meals from Asia.
